2020 was quite a year to open a business! We technically incorporated Munro Electrical Services Ltd. January 2020 and began the process of sorting on the initial components of starting a business – bank accounts, insurance, buying equipment, etc. We were just about to start advertising when COVID started to really make the news and then the March 2020 lockdown began.
We knew we were “all in” and had a solid business plan. However, that plan wasn’t supposed to be starting off only with emergency calls! But needs must, that’s what we did! Our first trading date was April 26, 2020 in the midst of a pandemic. Suited up with PPE, Munro Electrical Services Ltd ventured off as a new business.
After we got a few suitable calls under our belt, we applied for the NIC EIC assessment. However, everything was cancelled as people were only working from home with essential work. When things briefly opened up we were scheduled in, but then canceled (and rescheduled and canceled again… and again). We finally were able to have our assessment on March 23, 2021.
After a long day with the assessor, it ended with the Assessment Report with “no further actions needed”. The report further detailed:
“The business was well prepared for the visit.”
“No non-conformances observed.”
“The business was able to demonstrate good systems and procedures for the scope of work carried out.”
“Good office systems observed, contractor well prepared for visit.”
“Ross showed good attention to detail in the work he carries out.”
“A good assessment”
“I would be happy to accept Ross as a QS“.
Two weeks later, we were called about our log-in information and it was done. Frankly, it was a bit anti-climactic considering the pandemic wait, but it was good to finally be able to be part of the scheme.
So, now you will notice that we proudly display NIC EIC Approved Contractor on our advertising! All good things are worth the wait! And another box checked for Munro Electrical Services Ltd.
