24 Hour 7 Days Emergency Call Out

The Fire Alarm Deadline Has Passed… now what?

As of February 1, 2022, every home in Scotland must have interlinked fire alarms. But now that the deadline has passed, what does that mean for those who are yet to be compliant? Read on....

An interlinked system means if one alarms goes off, they all go off, so you will always hear an alarm wherever you are in your home.

The new law has come about because of the Grenfell fire in London in 2017, and it applies to all Scottish homes.

But the deadline has passed.  What will happen now?

According to The Times, there will be no penalty for those who are not compliant.  The responsibility ultimately falls on the homeowner to be sure to follow all legislation. Many insurance companies have come forward to provide assurances that property will still be covered in the event of a fire, but it is important to confirm this directly with your insurance company and get it in writing. What is better, thought, is to simply comply with the new legislation.  Not only will this satisfy any homeowner’s insurance, but also ensure the maximum safety of you and your family.
