Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for Commercial Businesses
If you are an owner of a commercial business, you must ensure the electrical safety of your premises to keep staff safe and meet health and safety regulations. As an NICEIC Approved Contractor we have the skills and expertise to carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). An EICR details the condition of a property’s fixed electrical system which includes consumer units, cables, switches and sockets.
What happens during an EICR? Our qualified electricians visually inspect the property and test the electrical installations for a range of issues including defective wiring, wear and tear, shock hazards and overloaded circuits. Ensuring the property complies with current BS 7671 standards is vital to the safety of yourself, your employees, and your customers.
A business premises should have an EICR completed at least once every 5 years.
Unlike other electrical companies who just provide you a satisfactory/unsatisfactory report, we provide you with photo documentation for your files and personalised recommendations in addition to the EICR document.
You should note, in addition to an EICR every 5 years (or at the end of the period recommended in a previous EICR), you may also want to consider other reasons such as when selling or buying a property, or after a flood or fire. You should also check with your insurance company for any specific time stipulations they may have on your policy. Our team will carry out detailed inspections and tests to help you meet your legal obligations, but also to ensure it is safe to conduct business.
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) for Commercial Businesses
As qualified Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) experts, our team will be able to perform tests and checks on a variety of appliances. Our certified, calibrated PAT testers are able to show us if the appliance has passed or failed testing including earth continuity, lead polarity and insulation resistance. Once our expert technician completes the test for each appliance, it will be labelled with a safety sticker. Upon completion, you will be provided a full report which could be required by your insurance or leasing company.
PAT testing should be completed annually on commercial properties.
Electric Vehicle Charge Points
We are an Office of Zero Emission Vehicles Approved Installer of electric vehicle (EV) car charging points. Covering the Trossachs National Park, Stirlingshire, and Perthshire, we not only supply and install EV chargers, but we also are approved under the OZEV Workplace charge point grant scheme (WCS). Currently, if you meet the requirements, the WCS reduces the purchase and installation costs by £350 per socket, up to the maximum of 40 charge points. This could mean a savings of up to £14,000. More information on the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles Workplace Charge Point Scheme (WCS) can be found through this link.
There are also grants available from Energy Savings Trust. To be eligible, the business must either operate plug-in vehicles, employ staff who operate plug-in vehicles , or can confirm future EV ownership or high levels of charge point usage from other sources, e.g. visitors or residents.
As an OZEV Approved Installer, we provide you with expert advice and installation.
For employees, charging at work can be a convenient way to recharge an EV whilst parked during the day. From a business point of view, having a charge point at the workplace will become increasingly important as a facility for employees and customers.
Customer and visitor electric cars will have different charging connectivity needs, so it is important to install a charging point most likely to be compatible with the widest range of vehicles possible. The most common workplace installation is a wall-mounted Type 2 7kW charger, which is compatible with most of the best-selling electric vehicles and can charge a vehicle fully in around 3-7 hours, depending on the model. Some businesses may wish to install a faster 22kW unit or even a rapid charger if cost and space allow. If you plan to install charge points in areas that are publicly accessible, it is important to consider access requirements. Most charge point manufacturers offer units that can be accessed with either a key or RFID card to prevent unwanted usage. Our expert EV team can help you decide on placement and type of installation best suited for your business.
